Measures for Newsrooms and Journalists to Address Online Harassment

Many journalists are exposed daily to threats and insults on social networks simply because someone did not like what and how they write.

Learn how to protect yourself and send a message to bullies that you are not afraid of them, and teach them a little about the rights and obligations of free speech. IPI – International Press Institute Announced “Internet and Harassment Measures for Editors and Journalists”

IPI – The International Press Institute is a global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists whose mission is to defend media freedom and the free flow of news.

They believe that cyberbullying aims to silence independent journalists and discredit their work, and so they have prepared measures based on best practices gathered from newsrooms across Europe. The measures provide specific strategies to address the emotional and professional problems caused by cyberbullying.

A protocol was developed to support journalists, newsroom structures and support mechanisms, blocking and communication strategies with the audience, and a guide – who is who in combating online abuse.
