Our member Zoran Pehar has joined the European Federation of Journalists’s Freelance Expert Group!
Zoran Pehar worked as a television and web journalist for more than 14 years at Croatian Radio Television, Nova TV and N1. From recently he is a freelance journalist.
In addition to his work as a journalist, he is an active member of Trade Union of Croatian Journalists (SNH). So today’s decision of the EFJ’s Steering Committee to make him a new member of the FREG was logical.
Contracts and fees, training, authors’ rights, and professional standards are all key issues for the growing – and ever more precarious- freelance community of journalists. Innovative financing models, which can give freelance journalists new possibilities/niches in media, are being explored by the EFJ and its affiliates.
The Freelance Experts’ Group’s focus for the coming years’ is based on the EFJ’s working programme:
– collective bargaining for all, including freelancers;
– ensure competition law does not undermine the right to collective bargaining;
– organising and training for freelances including on safety.
“I am honored by the decision of the EFJ’s Steering Committee and I will be very happy to actively participate in the work of FREG. This is an excellent opportunity to strengthen the fight for the rights of freelancers in Croatia.
It was never easy and simple to be a journalist, but the journalists never whined about it either, but were persistent and stubborn. With his appointment in FREG, Croatia now has three representatives in the EFJ Expert Groups!
Valentina Wiesner, president of the Society for the Protection of Journalist Copyrights and a journalist from Večernji List, is a member of the Author’s Rights Expert Group. Longtime HRT journalist Sanja Mikleušević Pavić is a member of the Broadcasting Expert Group.
The current president of EFJ, Maja Sever, was an active member of the Labour Rights Expert Group.
